Picked this up at sams club for $180 and what a great value. It is fairly easy to install and it is quiet on low or medium and really blows the cold air. I've bought 5 or 6 air conditioners in the last few years and this is the best. 8,000 is great for large room or even whole floor if not too big. It is also the most energy efficient in it's class. The GE's have been the better air conditioners that I have bought and I'm not generally a fan of GE.

The unit was shipped UPS with it's original box and appeared ok. Installed and cranked it up and it worked just fine. Of course this unit is made in China. The only thing to worry about is the warning not to use it in freezing weather. I am really hoping that freezing while not using it does no damage as it uses some new kind of fluid called 410a. It does also have a remote control which works well and a teeny tiny air filter which almost seems useless. There is paperwork stuck behind the filter that must be removed before operation. The physical size of the unit is surprisingly small compared to 30 year older 8000 btu units. I installed mine through a wall which blocked some of the air holes on the sides of the unit because of the walls 3" thickness but it didn't seem to affect the performance. The unit has a 3 degree rake to the back for draining water but there is no drain hole so the water must evaporate.This summer (2012) the unit is working just fine except the filter allows a lot of sawdust to enter the coils which I have to vacuum out occassionally. I will try to find a huge filter to trap the sawdust.JJK

Bought this item, installed it and had it on for about 2 weeks. Then it quit cooling.Now I am stuck with a non working air conditioner that no-one around here will service because I did not buy from them. Its not a high enough dollar item to want to spend much time or money on.Gave it one star, as I did not think I could give no stars. Actually wish I could have given it negative 100 stars, as thats what I feel about it!!
